ResetLife: Intensive Outpatient Support

ResetLife at First Step

A free, group-based program that supports people to make meaningful changes to their substance use and build a healthier, more connected life.

ResetLife is based on the evidence-informed Matrix Model and offers a structured, abstinence-based program in a supportive, community environment. Participants learn practical skills, build routines, strengthen relationships and gain confidence in making long-term changes.

The program is delivered by a team of clinicians, peer support workers and a family therapist. Most support happens through group sessions, with individual sessions and optional peer support available too.

Who is ResetLife for?

ResetLife is for adults (18+) who:

  • live, work or study in the SEMPHN catchment
  • want support with alcohol and/or other substance use
  • are ready to participate in a structured, abstinence-based program for 16 weeks
  • value group-based learning and peer connection
  • are open to involving family or other supports (if safe and appropriate)

People who are on opioid replacement therapy or other medication-assisted treatment are welcome to join.

Participants usually join after completing a withdrawal period and are asked to maintain abstinence while in the program.

How ResetLife works

ResetLife has two phases:

Phase 1 - Intensive Outpatient Program (16 weeks)

Participants attend structured group sessions, individual counselling and family focused sessions. Groups focus on early recovery skills, planning for change, building routines and staying connected.

Phase 2 — Continuing Care (ongoing)

After graduating from the intensive phase, participants can continue attending weekly groups to maintain connection, plan for challenges and strengthen their long-term wellbeing. Optional individual peer support and SMART Recovery groups are also available.

ResetLife offers a rolling intake, with people able to start on either a Monday or Friday once assessed as ready.

What to expect

ResetLife offers a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment. Participants can expect:

  • support from qualified clinicians and qualified peer workers with lived experience
  • practical tools to manage cravings, emotions and day-to-day challenges
  • opportunities to rebuild relationships and strengthen support networks
  • a focus on routine, structure and developing a meaningful life outside of substance use
