First Step offers an additional SMART Recovery group that is open to our local community. SMART Recovery (Self Management and Recovery Training) is a global, evidence informed program designed to help people change unhelpful behaviours through practical tools and peer support. The program draws on approaches such as:
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Motivational Interviewing (MI)
• Goal setting and planning
• Building motivation
• Managing urges
• Developing healthy habits
• Creating a more balanced life
Abstinence based recovery is optional.
SMART Recovery may be suitable for you if you are considering seeking support for any addiction or behaviour that is causing concern.
The group provides a safe, supportive space where participants can explore their progress, share challenges and strengthen their skills alongside others with similar experiences.
Who is SMART Recovery for?
SMART Recovery is designed for adults who want to build practical strategies to manage addictive behaviours, improve wellbeing and increase control over their choices. It is open to anyone in our local community who feels they may benefit from a structured, harm reduction approach.
