Just one of the many people we’ve helped is Baden Hicks.

Baden was exposed to drugs and alcohol from a young age, and felt these substances provided him the short-term relief he desperately wanted from anxiety and depression.

Eventually, he ended up on the streets, and in rooming houses, trying to find some stability.

Baden tried to get medical help and take part in rehab programs, but he didn’t have the structural support he needed, until someone from First Step Legal reached out to him. Soon he was receiving support from many of the First Step staff, all helping him get his life back on track.

We know we are making a difference in people’s lives. We know we are saving lives - we need to make sure this continues.

First Step receives no state government funding for the delivery of our health service – we rely on the generosity of our donors to do what we do.
